about us

The Centre for Research on Conflicts, Liberty, and Security (Centre d’Etudes sur les Conflits, Liberté et Sécurité – CCLS) is a non-profit association, which was founded in 1990.

CCLS is a space which encourages intellectual confrontation across disciplinary lines, namely between political scientists, international lawyers, sociologists, anthropologists, lawyers, philosophers, historians and geographers. Our research interests include social transformations and the manner in which insecurities and fears are constructed, as well as security management practices.

Firmly subscribing to an international political sociology approach, the studies conducted within and produced by this research centre focus on local and transnational dynamics, intertwining specialized knowledge on local societies and specific cultures with an understanding of the conditions for stability of the international order. CCLS is particularly involved in research on the process of Europeanization in the field of security, as our list of publications clearly demonstrates.

The centre participates in a number of research programs and also carries out consultations, evaluations, and reports for a diverse array of institutions in Europe.

Our institutional partners and sponsors include:

CCLS also organizes roundtable conferences, seminars, and public presentations.

In partnership with l’Harmattan, the centre coedits the following publications:
